WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT FOR TAMILNADU AND PUDUCHERRY FOR

THE WEEK ENDING  18TH  JUNE  2014  / 28TH JYAISHTHA, 1936 (SAKA)

SUMMARY OF WEATHER

 

Week’s rainfall:

Excess:            Coimbatore district.

Deficient:        Karaikal district.

Scanty:           Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Kanyakumari, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris, Salem, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvarur, Vellore, Villupuram districts and  Puducherry.

No Rain:         Ariyalur, Chennai, Dharmapuri, Dindugul, Erode, Karur, Namakkal, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram,  Tiruppur, Toothukudi, Tiruchirapalli and Virudhunagar districts. 

 

The Chief amounts of rainfall recorded in centimeters are:

12/06/2014: Tiruvallur arg (Tiruvallur Dist) 3, R.k.pet (Tiruvallur Dist), Sholingur (Vellore Dist) 2 each.

13/06/2014: Vilupuram (Villupuram Dist) 4, Devala (Nilgiris Dist), Valparai taluk office (Coimbatore Dist), Valparai pto (Coimbatore Dist), Cheyyur (Kancheepuram Dist), Tindivanam (Villupuram Dist) 1 each.

14/06/2014: Thali (Krishnagiri Dist), Valparai pto (Coimbatore Dist), Madavaram AWS (Tiruvallur Dist) 1 each.

15/06/2014:  Nagapattinam (Nagapattinam Dist) 3, Melur (Madurai Dist) 1.

17/06/2014:  Valparai pto (Coimbatore Dist) 1.

18/06/2014:  Valparai pto (Coimbatore Dist), Chinnakalar (Coimbatore Dist) 3 each, Valparai taluk office (Coimbatore Dist) 2, G Bazar (Nilgiris Dist), Devala (Nilgiris Dist), Papanasam (Tirunelveli Dist), Shencottah (Tirunelveli Dist), Naduvattam (Nilgiris Dist) 1 each.

Season’s rainfall for the period from 01.06.2014 to 18.06.2014: 

Excess:            Chennai, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri,  Kancheepuram,  Krishnagiri,  and Villupuram districts.

Normal:          Erode,  Karur,  Namakkal, Perambalur,   Theni, Tiruvallur,                            

                        Toothukudi, Vellore and Virudhunagar districts and  Karaikal and

                        Puducherry.

Deficient:        Cuddalore,  Dindigul, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris,

                        Pudukkottai  and Tiruvannamalai districts.

Scanty:           Ariyalur, Kanyakumari, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Tiruvarur and Tiruchirapalli  districts.

 

No Rain:         Ramanathapuram and Salem districts.

 

Chief synoptic features and its associated weather:          

 

                The Cyclonic storm “NANANK” moved West-northwestwards and lay centered at 0300 UTC of 12th at Lat 18 deg N/Long 65 deg E. It further moved Northwestwards into West Central and adjoining East Central Arabian sea at 18.7 N/62.7 E on 13th at 0300 UTC. It again moved North-Northwestwards into Northwest and adjoining West Central Arabian sea at 19.5 N/62.5 E weakened into a depression at 09 UTC. It further weakened into a well marked low pressure area at 03 UTC of 14th and into a upper air cyclonic circulation at 03 UTC of 15th .

 

              On 15th , Southwest monsoon advanced into North Arabian sea upto Latitude 21 degree North. A feeble off-shore trough seen from South Maharashtra – Karnataka- Kerala coast on 13th and 14th upto Karnataka coast on 15th and from South Gujarat to North Kerala on 16th , 17th and 18th.  Southwest monsoon active over Coastal Karnataka on 12th, 13th and 16th.  On 14th Southwest monsoon advanced into some more parts of West Central and Northwest Bay and on 18th it advanced into remaining parts of Bay.

 

             On 12th and 14th the maximum temperature were appreciably above  normal at a few places over Tamil Nadu. On 13th it were below normal and appreciably below normal at a few places over Tamil Nadu. On 15th, 16th , and 17th it were above normal appreciably and markedly above normal at a few places over Tamil Nadu.

 

Rainfall:  Rainfall occurred at isolated places over the state during the week.
